Seven Upper Sixth History students enjoyed a half-term trip to take in the sights of Paris in connection with their A2 History ‘Revolutionary France’ unit. All the main tourist attractions were visited, such as the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame and Sacre Coeur, as well as places with a more direct relevance to the Revolution and the Napoleonic era, including the Conciergerie, Pantheon, Palais Royale, Arc de Triomphe, Invalides, Place de la Concorde and Versailles.
The students also enjoyed a cruise down the Seine and an ice cream from Berthillon’s on the Ile St Louis. Despite an incredibly cold first couple of days, a great deal was packed in, mostly on foot, to help recreate the authentic ‘1789’ experience. We discovered many things during the course of the trip, including Sarah Jackson’s love of photography and Philip Townley’s encyclopaedic knowledge of the German Bundesliga! A big ‘merci beaucoup’ goes to all the students for being keen, punctual and tireless. Huge thanks also go to Mr Verinder for providing much of the historical narrative and helping to keep morale high at all times, and to Mr Franks for organising and coordinating the trip.
