National Hockey Cup Success

Over the weekend of 30th March/1st April, three Year 10 girls – Olivia Barrett, Caitlin Davies and Rachael Dent – represented Wakefield Hockey Club to become National Champions in the U16 Club Cup Hockey Finals at Cannock.   This year the format was changed and eight teams qualified for the finals, playing in two pools of four, with the winners of each pool playing in the final.  In the first round Wakefield beat Old Loughtonians 3-2, Team Bath Buccaneers 3-0 and Lichfield 3-0.

Wakefield were crowned champions following an all-North final against Kirby Lonsdale.  The  3-1 victory was secured by tournament top scorer, Rachael Dent, who scored a hat trick.  This is the fifth year’s successive win for Wakefield U16s – a great achievement for the club and for the girls – many congratulations to all three!
