Norfolk Broads Trip

In the first week of the Easter holiday a group from Years 7 and 8 visited the Norfolk Broads – a Silcoates tradition dating back to 1981!  We spent the week navigating the rivers and broads of the area, mixing our usual visits to places such as the ‘Cathedral of the Broads’ at Ranworth (where Ben Hood gave us a lesson on how to play the organ), the eel-catchers cottage at How Hill, Hardley windmill and activities such as inter-boat dinghy races, with new places such as Beccles, Geldeston and Langley.Â

The pupils keep a log book of each day’s activities, where events such as Jamie Dunion running the boat aground (despite being the best driver!), Alistair Parry’s altercation with a goat and Scott Harvey’s demolition of a door, for which he won the coveted Golden Dipstick award, are duly recorded.  Oliver Maz and Scott Harvey won the prizes for the best log books, though from the staff point of view the most rewarding things to read were the final comments of two pupils: “I’m definitely going on the trip next year” and “I wish Year 9s could go”.  These comments – and the fact that nobody fell in – are records of a happy, successful trip.
