U15 Independent Schools’ Rugby League Festival

On Tuesday 26th June Silcoates entered an U15 team in the inaugural Independent Schools’ Rugby League Festival, a 9-a-side competition held at West Park RUFC in Leeds.  After a few training sessions at Silcoates with our friends from the Wakefield Wildcats the boys were ‘converted’ to the rules and tactics of rugby league!

In our first game we comfortably beat Fulneck School 32-8.  In our second game we played a strong Bolton School team and managed to win 16-4, and in our final group game we played a physical team from Ardingly College and again won 16-4.  Therefore we made it through to the final, where we played GSAL.  Unfortunately, the final proved one game too far and a tired Silcoates team finished as runners-up.

The boys were then taken to Headingley for a meal in one of the hospitality suites, followed by a tour of Headingley Stadium and then an invitation to watch the Super League 9′s finals.  During half-time the boys were presented with their runners-up medals and they had the chance to meet a few of the Leeds Rhinos players.

Well done to all the boys who participated.  It was a fantastic day and we look forward to being invited back next year to see if we can go one better and win the tournament!
