Admissions

Most pupils join Silcoates School at the age of five (Junior School) or eleven (Senior School), though boys and girls are welcome at all ages.  A place is gained by a successful performance in the school’s entrance examination, held at Silcoates in January each year, and is also dependent on a satisfactory school report.  Entrance exams can also be arranged at other times of the year and it is possible, though not ideal, for pupils to join the school at any time during the school year.

Children at Silcoates Sunny Hill School and Silcoates St. Hilda’s School do not take the entrance examination: for them the school report is the criterion for admission.  Pupils entering the Junior School are not required to take a further examination to qualify for entry into the Senior School.  Progress from one part of the Silcoates School Foundation to the next is usually automatic, unless we feel there are strong educational reasons for not allowing it.  If so, full discussions are held with parents well in advance of the point of transfer.

Applications are also welcomed from boys and girls wishing to study for A Levels in our Sixth Form.  The offer of a place is dependent on GCSE predicted grades and a satisfactory school report, so pupils entering the Sixth Form are not required to sit an entrance examination.  The minimum criteria for entry are normally five GCSEs at Grade C or above, including English Language and Mathematics, with at least Grade B in each subject to be taken at A Level.

We are always happy to answer your questions about admissions because we recognise that each child’s and each family’s circumstances are different.  Please do not hesitate to contact us to discuss the admissions process.
