Elite Hockey Performance Coach joins Silcoates

Martin Sutherland Elite Hockey Coach at Silcoates School

We are delighted to have Martin Sutherland join our established Sports Department as Lead Hockey Coach. Martin has over 100 national league appearances (National league includes: Premier League, North Conference, West Conference and East Conference) appearances. He also undertook trials for the England squad both in the U18 and U21 teams.

In his talented career he has played for Canterbury in The Premier League and the East and North Conference with Sheffield and Leeds.

Martin studied at Sheffield Hallam where his team won the BUCS cup, the highest university hockey competition.

He played at Sheffield for 5 years with a year in the Premier League and 4 seasons in the North Conference of the National League. At Sheffield he played in the same team as some of the current GB squad, including Brendan Creed and Phil Roper.

Martin currently plays at Leeds HC starting his third season there where he plays in the national North Division 1 (Second league in the country after the re structure of the leagues this year).

He has coached hockey for 10 years starting with junior camps at Canterbury. At university he coached the men’s 1st XI in his final year as well as coaching teams at Sheffield Hallam HC and Sheffield Bankers HC. Since moving to Leeds he has coached at Performance Centre for 2 years coaching the Girls and then the Boys sections. He starts his third year of Performance Centre coaching this year and he is already having a positive effect on our Hockey performance.
