GCSE Success at Silcoates

Silcoates School GCSE Results Day 2019

There were whoops of surprise and delight this morning as Silcoates pupils celebrated their GCSE results. 91% of the grades achieved were at Grade 4 or higher and 26% of the grades were at Grade 7 or higher. 82% of the pupils achieved at least 5 passes including English and Maths.

“With GCSE examinations becoming ever more difficult, I am pleased with the results our pupils are achieving. However, grades in themselves never tell the whole story. Pupils throughout our school have a wide range of abilities and a number have learning difficulties which make the new-style examinations particularly daunting and challenging. The value added by the School is, therefore, considerable, with at least half a grade being added in most subjects compared to what one would expect from a pupil’s underlying ability. Those with specific learning difficulties, such as dyslexia and dyspraxia, have also done particularly well, thanks to the diligence of our teachers and the expertise of the Learning Support department. The pastoral support given to pupils has also built confidence and resilience, leading to results many would have thought impossible just a few months ago. We therefore congratulate everyone on the results today, which will provide a solid platform for them to build on during the Sixth Form or their chosen career path.” Mr Philip Rowe, Headmaster
