Chairman’s Welcome – Silcoates for Life
Welcome to the website of the Silcoatians’ Association. I took over as Chairman of the Association, for my second term in the role, in November 2014 and I am very much looking forward to the challenges and rewards of the next few years.
Membership of the Silcoatians’ Association is open to all former students, members of staff and invited friends of Silcoates School. However, I see our two main aims as being to keep former students in contact with the School and with each other, and to provide opportunities for networks of friendship and business to develop.
The Association is steered by a committee of former students, with the Headmaster and the Chair of Governors lending their support. We run a series of events during the year, including a Quiz Night, a Classic and American Car Show, the Sportsman’s Dinner and two reunion lunches, one in June and one in November. Money raised from these events goes back to the School to fund bursaries and assist with the development of facilities, as well as supporting local charities.
Details of all our events are posted on this website and we try our best to get in touch with former students for whom we have contact details. We are always keen to hear from any former students who would like to join the committee or who can help us with our programme of activities.
One of the key initiatives I want to develop in the coming months is the establishment of a directory of professional and business people who are able to provide mentoring and guidance service for Silcoates students, both during their time at school and after they have left. I hope to collect a range of experts for any Silcoatian, past or present, to consult about their career development, and thereby highlight the benefits of staying in touch with Silcoates and fellow students. Further details of this new initiative will be released shortly.
As we all know, being a Silcoatian is special and the Silcoatians’ Association wants to be able to offer help and support to former students throughout their lives. When you leave school, it should not mean saying goodbye to everything you learned and developed during your time here. We aim to create a lifelong relationship with school leavers so that every student who has passed through the School becomes part of the wider Silcoates community, hence the adoption of the strapline ‘Silcoates for Life’.
Please do not hesitate to contact me, if you would like to discuss anything further. I look forward to chairing the Association for the next three years and, especially, to the chance of meeting as many former students during that time.
