PSHEE

PSHEE is provided through discrete subject lessons using specialist teachers, as well as through assemblies, class discussions and other events that enrich pupils’ experiences.

In Years 7 and 9, pupils receive one Citizenship lesson every two weeks. Pupils gain an understanding of the UK democratic process and how citizens can influence decision-making. Year 7 pupils have the opportunity to take part in a mock election. Current world issues are linked to the pupils’ learning; within the topic of Human Rights and Poverty pupils take part in a ‘Needs and Wants’ auction, which allows pupils to discuss how to cope in a crisis and to distinguish between needs and wants. The UK Justice system is taught in both Years 7 and 9, where pupils learn how our laws are made and students discuss examples of both criminal and civil law.

Lessons on Personal, Health and Social education are delivered in both Years 8 and 10. Pupils cover aspects of e-safety, anti-bullying, self-image, drug education and sex and relationships. Guest speakers from Dove, Oxfam and Spectrum Community Health provide valuable detail to all topics covered.

Year 10 students have the opportunity to develop valuable life-skills in Cookery, Finance and Careers.
