Sport

Sport plays a central role in Silcoates life. We are keen to enable every child to participate fully in the variety of sporting activities on offer at the School to help nurture their health and well-being.  A major emphasis of the programme is the pursuit of excellence and school representation in the sports teams.  We are very proud of our ethos of ‘sport for all’ and we encourage each pupil to take part in the sports teams across the year groups within the Junior and Senior Schools.

Silcoates has a strong reputation for the quality of its sports teams and sports coaching.  Our core sports for the boys are: rugby during the Autumn Term, hockey during the Spring Term and cricket, tennis and athletics during the Summer Term.  For our girls we offer: hockey during the Autumn Term, netball during the Spring Term and rounders, tennis and athletics during the Summer Term.  Alongside these sports are activities such as swimming, cross-country, football and badminton in order to ensure a varied programme is met. Whether or not pupils are a beginner, an expert or keen to learn and improve, they are welcome to try any or all of the activities.

We ensure all pupils are able to take part in team sports through our House competitions, which lead to a real sense of achievement and commits to our ethos of teamwork.

Sport is thriving at Silcoates and, not only do we have high participation rates, our sports teams achieve success through competition. We nurture our pupils to be able to deal with the positive emotions and challenges sport can bring: through the high standards of our sports coaching, and the facilities on hand, we are able to deliver results.

Our Senior teams tour far and wide, enjoying a variety of different cultures and competitive sport.  In recent years, our students have enjoyed playing rugby in South Africa, cricket in Dubai and hockey in the USA and Barbados!
