Sixth Form ‘Business of Science Conference 2019’ delegates #BoSC19

Business of Science Conference - Silcoates School Delegates

Last week, our Sixth Form STEM students visited the Business of Science conference in Leeds. They had the opportunity to hear some world class speakers and to mingle with representatives from companies at the forefront of global sustainability. Founded by Steve Bennett, #BoSC19 was formed due to Steve’s passion for the development and commercialisation of science along with the promotion and encouragement of STEM skills to support technical businesses.

Dr Geoff Mackay from BASF explained how we are running out of time if we do not individually take measures to not only reduce waste, but to stop producing it. Pip Clode, Power Unit Concept Team Leader at Mercedes-AMG Formula1, talked about their goal to produce the most efficient engine in motorsports and the transfer to Mercedes-Benz road cars. Other informative and innovative speakers were Dr Mark Fletcher, Global Leader ARUP and Tom Riordan, Chief Executive of Leeds City Council, to name but a few.

The conference finished with a stand-alone Careers session for students.

Thank you to all involved for a fabulous day.
