The School is thrilled to report an outstanding overall pass rate of 100%, with 43% of boys and girls achieving the top A* and A grades. Among these, 11 students (28%) celebrated achieving at least three A*-A grades. Additionally, 97% of all university applicants have secured places at their first-choice institutions, with 100% gaining admission to either their first or second choice. These exceptional results are a testament to the dedication and hard work of both students and teachers alike.
Silcoates School is especially proud that 35% of all grades awarded were at A* to A. Furthermore, 100% of all subject grades earned by students in Geography, Further Maths, and Physics, and more than half of all subject grades in Chemistry, Economics, English Literature, Maths, Music, Photography, Physical Education, Politics, and Religious Studies were awarded at grades A* to B. These successes reflect the comprehensive and well-rounded education that Silcoates School offers.
A-Levels
I am justly proud of this year’s A Level candidates. The top tier of their grades are indicative of how hard they have worked towards their goals and how Silcoates is growing from strength to strength. Our headline results are arguably the best the School has ever achieved, and the destinations and courses are spectacular. However, our real success, as ever, lies with pupils who have excelled beyond their predicted grades, like Evelynn Ingram, for example, whose grades in Chemistry, Maths and Physics are on average two whole grades higher than her GCSE results and other nationally standardised tests would ever have predicted possible. Other students chose not to apply to University and, equally as impressively, have achieved excellent unconditional offers from a variety of apprenticeship providers, the Police, and the Armed Forces. Today, we celebrate the inspirational journeys and accomplishments of each and every individual and extend our best wishes for their continued success as they tread forward on their chosen pathways, beyond our School gates. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to our dedicated Silcoates staff and all our supportive parents, who have stood beside and nurtured our students throughout their time at Silcoates.

University and careers advice
Planning a student’s onward journey from Silcoates is just as important to us as their Sixth Form experience.
Every student receives specialist University and careers advice from our dedicated Careers Adviser, as well as support from the Deputy Head, the Head of Sixth Form and the Sixth Form tutors. Assistance in developing personal statements for University applications is particularly strong at Silcoates. In 2023, 84% of all students secured their first choice University – this included Veterinary Science at the University of Nottingham, Engineering at The University of York, Music at the Royal Northern College of Music and Natural Sciences at Durham University.
Silcoates offers a full support programme, including initiatives such as the Oxbridge Group and academic discussion groups to ensure that students are fully supported to realise their potential. We ensure that pupils across different year groups benefit from tailored activities to guide them in their career choices.
A new Careers Hub provides students with a dedicated space to explore and actualise their future selves. With support and advice always on hand through our dedicated Careers Adviser, students gain invaluable career insights. Initiatives such as UCAS/Careers Week and other apprenticeship opportunities also take place throughout the year. Students use Unifrog to help collate their applications.
Lower Sixth students engage in activities such as visiting the Leeds Apprenticeship Fair and participating in mock interviews to gain a practical understanding of job interviews. Regular Careers Breakfasts are also held throughout the year, featuring guest speakers who share insights into their industries and pathways into their sectors.
We also recognise the value of first-hand Work Experience and all Lower Sixth students undertake a work experience placement. This is an extremely valuable opportunity in helping our Sixth Form students to clarify their future higher education or career choices, whilst also enhancing their long-term employability skills.
