Year 11 Bookworms met on Friday evening to discuss ‘Look Who’s Back’ by Timur Vermes. The basic premise is that Adolf Hitler reawakens at the site of his former bunker 70 years after the war, is mistaken for a brilliant comedian and becomes a media phenomenon. Most of the students felt that the book was a bit boring and that they were missing the point, somehow. They also felt that it would resonate much more with a German audience, as it reflects on the German political system. One person had also seen the film and said that the film was much better and much funnier. This led on to discussion about the phenomenon of cult-status and about whether it is ever ok to make fun of terrible events.
