Appointment of Headteacher, Phil King

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Phil King as Headteacher of Silcoates School, succeeding Mr Chris Wainman. Following a rigorous international recruitment process, Phil emerged as the outstanding candidate to lead Silcoates into the next exciting chapter of its history.

Phil has been the Senior Deputy Head at Birkdale School in Sheffield for the past five years with responsibility for pastoral care and safeguarding. Having previously held the position of Director of Studies for eight years, overseeing all academic aspects of Birkdale School, Phil has extensive insight and expertise of senior leadership within the independent school sector and is passionate about supporting children to develop into the best versions of themselves.  This is supported by glowing references received from Birkdale School who also commended his vision for introducing new initiatives whilst remaining grounded in the day-to-day running of the School.

We are confident that this appointment will be widely welcomed across the School community. Phil’s enthusiasm regarding the value of holistic education, his commitment to academic excellence and his emphasis on pupil voice and inclusion are all very much in line with our vision for Silcoates and we look forward to working with Phil when he takes up post in September 2025.
