We have high aspirations for all our pupils in all areas of school life, including academic attainment and progress. Silcoates School has the distinct advantage of being a 3-18 co-educational school, offering a seamless education from Pre-School to Sixth Form on the same site.

In Reception we place a strong emphasis on the importance of developing fine motor skills and hand-eye co-ordination. An excellent foundation on which to build. Children in Reception are well prepared for joining Key Stage 1 at the end of their first year in school in which they follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. We ensure that there is a balance of teacher-led and child-led learning creating opportunities for exploration, creativity, critical thinking and promoting curiosity.

Together with our expectation that teaching strives to always be excellent, enquiry-led activities and skilled staff have ensured that academic standards have remained consistently above the national average.

Mrs E Moss, Head of Junior School

In line with the school’s aims, pupils develop a commitment to their learning and to achieving high standards, as well as a desire to think independently and use all their talents.

ISI Educational Quality Inspection 2016

We seek to instil in all our pupils intellectual curiosity and a love of learning. This starts with the outstanding teaching, guidance and support of our teaching staff, who pass on to pupils their passion for their subject and for learning for its own sake.

Mrs R Dews, Deputy Head Academic

Our rich and dynamic Junior School curriculum provides pupils aged 5-11 with an outstanding education. As an independent school we are not confined to the learning objectives laid down in the National Curriculum but ensure that pupils across the school have a strong foundation in the core subjects. Maths, English, Science, History, Geography, Art, Design Technology, Religious Studies, Music, Physical Education, Outdoor Education, ICT, Games and French are studied throughout the Junior School including Politics in Year 6.

The Junior School has access to a fully-equipped science laboratory, ICT suite, art room, a library and shares the swimming pool, Sports Hall and other facilities with the rest of the School. Our pupils are placed in small forms and as well as teaching from their form teacher they attend classes given by subject specialists.
