2. Getting to Know You

You will be invited to complete an enquiry form and asked to submit a school report. This ensures we can provide the best experience for your child during the admissions process.

3. Tour

The best time to see the school is during a ‘typical’ school day. A tour offers the opportunity to see lessons in action and discover our facilities first-hand. Those joining from Reception to Year 5 are invited meet the Head of Junior School, Mrs Ellen Moss. Pupils who are joining us in Year 6 will be invited to meet both the Headmaster, Mr Chris Wainman, and the Head of Junior School. Those joining us from Year 7 onwards are invited to meet with the Headmaster.

4. Registration

You will be invited to complete a Registration Form to formally register your child as a prospective pupil, and will be asked to pay a £50 non-refundable registration fee.

Registration deadline for Year 7 Assessment Day: Friday 25 October 2024.

5. Taster Day

Your child will be invited to join us for a Welcome Day. This is a chance for your child to experience the School first hand, enjoy lessons with their prospective new class, make new friends and get a feel for life as a Silcoatian. Your child will be allocated a buddy for the day.  We carefully consider each Buddy and we match your child and the Buddy based on similar interests and aspirations. Many of our pupils have been through this process and offer a warm welcome and listening ear to new pupils.

6. Examinations

Prospective pupils from Year 3 onwards undertake an assessment. This ensures the curriculum is accessible and allows us to gain a thorough understanding of how we can support your child to achieve their goals.

Pupils will be invited to complete an assessment on the morning of their taster day, and will join their prospective future cohort for the remainder of the day.

Junior School

Assessments are completed in school and assess Maths and English skills.

Senior School

September 2025 Entrance Assessment Day: Friday 22 November 2024.

Assessments are completed in School and assess Maths, English, and Non-Verbal and Verbal Reasoning skills.

Year 7 Entrance Examinations

Children wishing to join our Senior School in Year 7 are required to sit a formal entrance exam. Prospective pupils will be invited to attend by our Admissions team. The Assessment day offers the opportunity to meet the Head, our Heads of School and enjoy a timetable of exciting activities in the afternoon.

7. Offer and Acceptance

Once all entrance procedures have taken place, the decision of an offer is made. Formal offers of a place are made in writing. On accepting the place, you will be asked to pay a refundable deposit of £250.

8. A Warm Welcome

Once your child’s place is confirmed, you will be sent a joining pack. The pack contains key information for a smooth transition to Silcoates. Parents and pupils are also invited to a number of transition events.

9. Check In

Your child’s teacher will contact you within 10 School days to discuss how your child has settled in and how we can support them throughout their Silcoates journey.

At Silcoates Pre-School, we offer both part-time and full-time places, with sessions available in the mornings and afternoons, Monday to Friday.

To secure your preferred schedule, we kindly ask that you complete the Sessions Form at the time of registration, specifying the days you wish your child to attend. Due to high demand, we recommend submitting this form as early as possible, as we cannot guarantee that your preferred sessions will remain available later down the line.

If your chosen sessions are full, your child will be placed on a waiting list, and we will notify you when a spot becomes available.

The best time to see our Pre-School is during a “typical” day. A tour offers the opportunity to see our Pre-School in action and find out more about life at Silcoates. You will also be invited to meet with our Head of EYFS, Mrs Tracy Escreet, who will be able to answer any of your questions.

4. Welcome Day

You and your child will be invited to join us for a ‘Welcome Day’. This is a chance for your child to experience our Pre School with the comfort of a familiar face.

5. Settling in sessions

You child will be invited to join us for a settling-in session, where they will be able to explore the Pre-School independently. Sessions last for approximately one hour. These sessions allow our Pre-School team to understand how they can support your child during their time with us. It also offers the opportunity for your child to familiarise themselves with the Pre-School environment and make new friends.
