We are fortunate to have fifty-two acres of green space right outside our classroom doors. We believe in the importance of outdoor learning and have therefore built Outdoor Education into the Primary School timetable for all year groups.
A bespoke curriculum has been devised which makes use of our expansive and diverse outdoor environment. This includes the woodland and the pond. The outdoor curriculum is skills based and children have the opportunity to develop skills in: tool use, fire, shelter building, navigation and orienteering, knots and lashing and nature (identifying and taking care of flora and fauna).
We hope to grow environmental ambassadors who can make the best of natural materials whilst helping the environment to thrive for the next generation.
Children acquire transferable skills such as perseverance, teamwork, problem solving, confidence, patience, resilience, risk assessment, self-motivation and building positive relationships. We also know that being outdoors promotes good mental health and wellbeing.
