The Silcoatian Newspaper – Edition 2
We are delighted to share the second edition of our school newspaper, The Silcoatian!
Growing up in the world of today, children face many challenges and require a range of skills and attributes to help them lead happy, fulfilled lives. At Silcoates we understand this, and that’s why we are committed to delivering an education that takes a holistic approach and develops each of our pupils to enable them to become the best they can be.
To help reflect this, at school we talk about the Silcoates Standard as a set of attributes, attitudes and behaviours that we encourage all Silcoates pupils to aspire to and measure themselves against. The Silcoates Standard is divided into four main sections – Succeeds, Shines, Spirit and Supports, and we believe that by developing in each of these areas every pupil will be best equipped to achieve whatever their aspirations are either during or after their time at Silcoates.
The standard to Succeed reflects the behaviours and attitudes pupils need to achieve in their lessons and learning. This includes always trying their best and being well organised as well as learning to be resilient when things don’t go as initially hoped. To Shine means to develop skills and experiences outside the classroom, whether that’s on the sports field, on stage or in the great outdoors. We want all our pupils to spend time discovering their passions and interests as well as taking pride in being part of the Silcoates community and benefitting from the supportive community we have here. The word Spirit reflects each pupil’s character and our commitment to helping them develop into independent, curious, confident individuals who are respectful, kind and empathetic to others as well as themselves. Finally, Supports identifies the importance of community and the value of pupils being actively engaged in both the local and wider communities and making a positive contribution to support and help others.
In working towards the Silcoates Standard, we believe every pupil will develop the skills, attributes and attitude that will best serve them, not only during their school days but throughout the rest of their lives. I hope that over the pages of this most recent edition of our school newspaper you will see many examples of pupils reflecting these qualities across a wide range of activities that reflect the thriving and successful school Silcoates is.
Happy reading!
