Silcoates Students Shine with Outstanding A Level Results

Over a quarter of all grades awarded at the highest level, A* to A

Over half of all grades awarded at A* to B

Students in the Upper Sixth at Silcoates are celebrating a superb set of A Level results, showcasing both academic excellence and personal achievement. With over a quarter of all grades awarded at A* to A and over half at A* to B. In addition, 85% of university applicants have secured a place at their first-choice institution, and 96% have been accepted by either their first or second choice.

Across all students, the proportion achieving A* to A grades was 4% higher than forecast. The picture is even more impressive for those in the more able band, who achieved 17% higher than predicted, while students in the high ability cohort achieved 9% higher than expected.

Further Mathematics saw every student achieve an A* to A grade, and in Art and Photography, all students achieved A* to B grades. Over two thirds of Business, Geography and Maths students were awarded A* to B grades and the most common grade in Physics was an A. These outstanding outcomes reflect the breadth and quality of teaching at Silcoates, as well as the commitment and drive of our students.

Among the many students achieving outstanding results this year are:

  • Oliver Thackray, who will read Chemistry at The University of Manchester after achieving A*, A, A, A in Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry and Physics.
  • Joshua Ibbotson will study Accounting and Finance at The University of Warwick following top grades of A*, A, A, A in Maths, Further Maths, Business and Physics.
  • Alex Thompson is heading to The University of Bath to read Aerospace Engineering, having secured A*, A, A, B in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry.
  • Sophie Garthwaite has chosen a degree in Sport and Exercise Sciences at Durham University after attaining A, A, B in Business, PE and Biology.
  • Amir Dawodu is heading to The University of Nottingham, where he will read Law after achieving A, A, B in PE, Politics and Religious Studies and an A grade in his Extended Project Qualification (EPQ).
  • Jessica Drewett will study Engineering at Newcastle University following top grades of A*, A, C in Business, Maths and Physics.
  • Freya Payne is heading off to Durham University, where she will read Business and Management, having secured A, B, B in Business, History and Psychology and an A in her Diploma of Financial Studies.
  • Evie Lella begins an apprenticeship at KPMG after attaining A, B, B in Geography, Maths and Politics.
  • Lydia Peach secured B grades across the board in English Literature, History and Politics alongside an A* in her EPQ and will read Law at Newcastle University.
